He's cursed...
Connor is fading. Every day, he loses a little more contact with the world. He feels nothing. No one sees him. And now he can't speak. The only way he can interact at all is by shifting to his wolf form.
Then Ellie runs into him. For the first time in ages, he feels something, and now that he's felt her touch, he craves it.
But Ellie is in danger. Connor's old enemy, Malachi, has her in his sights, and if Connor isn't careful, he'll lose her -- and the chance for salvation -- for good.

Something drove him through the forest—a need, deep and primal, for her. He had to see her. To be near her. Even half-changed and more beast than man, he couldn’t resist.
He didn’t remember the journey to her house. He was just there, his instincts bringing him right to her door.
A light burned inside. Her shadow crossed in front of the window, and the curtain stirred. Was she looking out? Could she feel his presence the way he felt hers?
Connor tried to fade into the shadows. Cold reality drenched him. He wasn’t human. He was a monster, a predator, and if she saw him now, like this, she’d be terrified.
He couldn’t bear the thought of scaring her. Of seeing the look of disgust and terror on her face.
The door snicked open and the porch light clicked on as she stepped outside.
Ellie. His Ellie.
No, he told himself. He had no right to her. There was no place for him in her life. She was funny and kind and strong. She deserved the chance to walk in the sunshine and be happy.
There’d be no happiness with him.
No matter how much he wanted her, no matter how loudly every cell in his body screamed for him to take her, claim her, he couldn’t do that to her.
“Hello?” she called. And then, “Connor? Are you out there?”
His breath caught in his throat. Even if the curse hadn’t taken his voice, he wouldn’t have been able to answer.
“I know you’re there,” she said. “Please…come out where I can see you. I have so many questions about what happened.”
The more she spoke, the calmer he felt. The turmoil that Malachi had stirred within him stilled, quieted. Slowly, his body shifted back to normal.
He stepped into the light.
Her big eyes widened, and her hand on the porch railing clenched and then trembled. But she didn’t back away. She didn’t run from him. “You were out there tonight, weren’t you? At the restaurant?”
He hesitated but then nodded. He’d rather die than lie to her.
“What’s happening?” she asked, her voice breathy. “None of this makes sense. What…what are you? And why did you save me?” As she spoke, she moved closer until she was standing on the step right in front of him. She reached out, her hand moving in slow motion until coming to rest lightly on his bare chest.
His muscles tensed involuntarily. That place deep inside him—that spot where his desire for her burned hot and wild— flared with white-hot heat, consuming all his doubts and fears.
He shouldn’t do it. If he were a decent man, he’d run far away and let her live a normal, happy life.
But he wasn’t a decent man. He wasn’t a man at all.
So he pulled her against his body, hard, and when her lips parted in shock or desire, he didn’t know which, he claimed them.
He claimed her.
